Officials said the northern end of the city in the Candlewood Lake area took the brunt of the storm, with fire, police, paramedics, DPW and utility companies working diligently to restore Danbury back to normal.
As of 3:15 p.m. on Friday, May 18, 34,672 of Eversource’s 1,270,056 customers - including 3,673 in Danbury - remain without power, with an estimated restoration date of approximately midnight.
“While crews continue to work through the damage, emergency services crews have been responding to multiple emergency calls throughout the city. The Fire Department and Danbury Hospital EMS responded to multiple fires, medical emergencies and service calls throughout the last 72 hours. This included one storm-related fatality and another person that sustain serious injuries,” Danbury fire officials noted.
The Westchester Connecticut Dispatch Center received an estimated 1,000 calls in the wake of the storm, with more than 200 emergencies reported.
Officials said that “as power restoration efforts continue, shelter operations are coming to a close.” Residents in need of non-potable water can stop by any fire station and use the garden hose to fill up.
